It is a bit of a grind but nothing compared to the agony of not having enough gold which hinders your progress in the game. There are a few things you can do to get more money in Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord. If, like me, you weren't lucky first time just keep travelling to other villages and follow the same process until you loot 3 cattle in one go. In the village menu select 'Take hostile action' and then 'Steal Cattle'. Now travel from village to village alone (don't recruit anyone).

The Merchant from that city will want you to do their quest, simply decline and then leave the city.
